Heather Bentley loves going to VIPKid organized events, so if you live somewhere in Kansas, there’s a good chance you’ll see her at one! She most recently attended VIPKid Journey in Orlando, and you can even briefly see her at the beginning of the video. Along with teaching, Heather is passionate about designing and making clothes for her own business, Heartland Love Boutique. She, like many other VIPKid teachers, is performing a balancing act with working and taking care of a family. Just recently, she announced that she is pregnant with her second child. Congratulations, Heather, on your growing family!
What companies do you teach for?
Do you have an outside job – related or unrelated to teaching?
I have an at home boutique I started before VIPKID. I currently just take custom orders for shirts and other items but hope to do more as I really enjoyed selling boutique clothing and creating designs! (to visit Heartland Love Boutique, click here.)
How long have you been teaching?
Almost 2 years- January 2017
Have you always taught? Or did you start out in another field entirely?
I pursued Education in college but decided not to get my teaching degree. I worked as a mental health case manager for children and as a high school dance coach before becoming a stay at home mom.
Tricks for staying alert:
All of the coffee! But really, I have always been a person that needs a decent amount of sleep to function so my best tricks are to not overdo it with my schedule and get as much sleep as I can. This usually means going to bed at the same time as my 5-year-old!
What is your schedule like?
I teach 5-9 AM Monday-Friday. Taking the weekends off has really helped me to separate work and family life as well as kept me from experiencing burn-out!
Favorite lesson (or level) to teach:
I love my upper-level students! I am a talker and being able to extend while really getting to know my students is my favorite!
Heather, her husband Kyle, and her son Cam
What do you do between classes?
I rarely have five minutes as I really like to chat and extend the lessons! 😊 However, the time I do have is making sure I have a reward ready as well as any props I may need for the next class. Chugging my coffee is also a must!
How do you use FeedbackPanda (what is your process)?
I always have FeedbackPanda open in a separate window every morning. During any spare time I will quickly type in the student and course which only takes me about 1 minute. I can save the template right then and come back to it later. This makes it easy to pull open on my phone if I have a busy day and complete my feedback on the go. It is already prepped and ready, I just add my personal comments for each student.
Describe your feedback style/structure:
Synopsis of what we worked on/ what the child can improve upon and did well at/ personal comment about child.
Good feedback must contain…
Anything personal! Writing one simple comment that is personal to the child can change the feel of the feedback from a template to personal.
What do you like to see when checking the Teacher-to-Teacher Feedback (notes on students from teachers in the VIPKid/Gogokid portal)?
I rarely leave T2T Feedback and hardly ever read it. However, if I do happen to see feedback about a tough student it can help with pacing and being that much more prepared to grab their attention.
Heather and her best friend, Kristen–who is also a VIPKid teacher and FeedbackPanda user!
Guess where they are?

Has FeedbackPanda helped you manage your job and personal life? Any specifics? (e.g. before and after)
FeedbackPanda has without a doubt simplified my daily routine! It has cut down on the time it takes to complete feedback. It has made doing my feedback on the go much easier! It has also helped with my prep time between classes as I can check out the template for each class to see what will be covered instead of flipping through each slide. Thanks to my best friend Teacher Kristen for telling me to try it!
What are your interests?
I love to read when I have the time, be creative, work on personal development, and binge watch TV shows while I clean my house,
Any other comments you wish to communicate…😊
I wasn’t sure if I should give a little more of my background. 😊 I am a work at home mom with a 5-year-old and my 2nd child on the way. I live in the Kansas City area and organize the Kansas City VIPKID meetups along with my best friend who I started this journey with. Organizing meetups and bringing our community together is extremely rewarding and our KC community is one of the best! Working for VIPKID has been a huge blessing and these kiddos are so amazing; I traveled to China in September 2017 to meet some of them!
